FOOD AND WINE OF SOUTHERN SPAIN

Hola....My name is Bernie Kilkelly. My wife Maureen and I traveled to Spain in 1997 and had a wonderful time seeing the sights and enjoying the fabulous food and wine.

If you are planning a trip to southern Spain, this site has info and recommendations on where to stay, dine and taste wine in the Jerez and Valdepeñas wine regions. Wine tourism is not as developed in Spain as it is in other major wine countries, so very few wineries, called bodegas in Spain, have tasting rooms. Instead, tastings are given as part of bodega tours, which in Jerez are given at specific times and in Valdepeñas usually need to be arranged in advance.

Also included are our recommendations for places to stay, dine, and golf in Toledo, Seville, the La Mancha region and on the Costa del Sol (also known as the Costa del Golf). The hotels in Spain are among the most beautiful in the world. Southern Spain boasts beautiful scenery, while Barcelona and Madrid hotels are often modeled off the historic architecture of the area. Though perhaps the best accommodations in Spain are the lovely bed and breakfasts in the Spanish countryside.

In addition, I highly recommend a book that was invaluable to our trip: 'The Wine Roads of Spain' by Marc & Kim Millon.
